The AVSEC course on security checks of people, baggage and belongings (11.2.3.1) is designed to train personnel in charge of airport inspection and control processes, such as personal security checks, carry-on baggage scans and searches of belongings.

The training is based on the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2015/1998 and applicable national regulations, and teaches both the legal basis and operating procedures, types of permitted equipment, detection techniques, concealment methods and actions in the event of discovery of prohibited items.

The student will learn to apply these controls safely, effectively and in accordance with applicable regulations, guaranteeing that security controls fulfill their mission without hindering operational fluidity.

The main objectives of this course are:

  • Know the national and European regulatory framework that regulates AVSEC controls of people and luggage.
  • Understand the legal and operational responsibilities of the personnel who carry out such controls.
  • Identify prohibited items and common concealment techniques.
  • Know how to use different inspection equipment: X-rays, metal detectors, ETD systems, scanners, manual inspection.
  • Apply control procedures rigorously, without violating passenger rights.
  • Be able to make appropriate decisions in the face of critical results and coordinate security responses.
  • Develop a culture of vigilance, accuracy and compliance within the security control environment.
